Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers on stamps, scope, and what to send.
General
What does a solar structural engineer do?
Confirms that a roof or foundation can safely carry a solar array and its equipment, designs the supports or foundations, and seals the documents the AHJ needs for permit.
How does an engagement start?
Submit your project details. A licensed engineer reviews them and sends a proposal with a defined scope, timeline, and fee within one business day.
Which states are you licensed in?
California, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, Hawaii, and Texas, with permitting experience across 100s of AHJs nationwide.
Do you respond to plan check comments?
Yes. Plan check and RFI responses on our documents are included through approval.
What do I need to send for a quote?
Submit your preliminary project information, such as site address, proposed array layouts, equipment cutsheets, and any existing structural drawings. A licensed engineer will review this data, discuss the project requirements with you, and issue a formal proposal with a defined scope and fee.
Existing Structure Analysis
Do you always design reinforcement?
No. Reinforcement is designed only if the analysis shows a member needs it.
What do you need for an existing structure analysis?
The solar plan set, module and racking specs, and roof framing information: member size, spacing, and span. Existing drawings help on commercial buildings.
Rooftop Equipment & Anchorage
Do you check the roof under the dunnage?
Yes. The supporting structure is checked as part of the design.
Do you design wall anchorage for batteries and inverters?
Yes, for rooftop and wall-mounted electrical equipment.
BOS & BESS Foundations
Do you design BESS foundations?
Yes, for containerized and cabinet systems on C&I and utility-scale projects.
Do you design transformer containment?
Yes. Secondary containment is designed together with the transformer pad.
Consulting & Field Support
What is a staging plan?
A marked-up roof plan showing where crews can land modules, racking, and ballast during install, and how much, so the roof is never overloaded.
Do you respond to plan check comments?
Yes. Plan check responses on our documents are included through approval.
